If surgery is recommended, you will receive a written quotation outlining:
- Surgeon fees
- Surgical assistant fees

Medicare
Yes, you can claim a Medicare rebate for specialist and allied health consultations provided an appropriate referral is in place.
Medicare rebates are usually processed electronically at the time of payment. The rebate goes straight into your account in 1-2 days.
Private Health Insurance
Private health insurance generally does not cover specialist consultations in consulting rooms.
Depending on your level of cover, physiotherapy and exercise physiology consultations may attract a rebate. Please check your entitlements with your health fund.
Workers Compensation & CTP
Where written approval has been obtained, consultation accounts are generally sent directly to the insurer.
If approval has not yet been received, payment may be required on the day of your appointment until liability has been confirmed.
Yes. You can still submit an Appointment Request. Insurer approval is required before your appointment proceeds.

Payment is required on the day of your appointment unless alternative billing arrangements have been approved.
Pre-payment is required before your procedure. Our team will discuss payment arrangements with you when your surgery is booked.
Written insurer approval is generally required before your appointment. If approval is declined, you may choose to proceed as a privately funded patient or cancel your appointment.
Many health funds require an excess or co-payment for hospital admissions. Please contact your health fund to confirm your level of cover and whether an excess applies.
We see patients under:

Please contact reception if you are covered under another compensation or insurance scheme.
If written insurer approval has been received, your consultation will usually be billed directly to the insurer.
If approval has not been obtained, payment will be required on the day of your appointment. You may then seek reimbursement from your insurer if your claim is subsequently approved.
Yes. You do not need private health insurance to consult with Professor van Gelder at Sydney Spine Institute.
If surgery is recommended, your treatment options will be discussed. This may include surgery through the NSW public hospital system or you may choose to self-fund surgery in a private hospital.
