About Dr Khan
A practical, evidence-based approach to occupational medicine
Dr Azhar Khan is a Specialist Occupational Physician and Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM), Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Originally from the United States, Dr Khan has a diverse academic and professional background spanning biological sciences, medicine and occupational health. He completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Washington and a Master of Science in Molecular Biology at the University of Wyoming before undertaking his medical degree at Flinders University in Adelaide.
Following medical training, he completed postgraduate qualifications in Occupational and Environmental Medicine and was admitted as a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine in 2016.
Since joining Sydney Spine Institute in 2016, Dr Khan has worked closely with injured workers, employers, insurers and treating practitioners to support recovery, improve function and facilitate safe and sustainable participation in work.
His approach emphasises practical, evidence-based recommendations tailored to the individual's medical condition, workplace demands and recovery goals. Dr Khan is experienced in managing workplace injuries, providing return-to-work planning, and conducting fitness-for-work assessments.
