Clinical Discussion
We welcome direct phone calls from referring practitioners who would like to discuss a patient before making a referral.
Whether you have concerns about an urgent presentation, would like advice on the most appropriate referral pathway, or are unsure which member of our multidisciplinary team is best suited to assess your patient, our clinicians are happy to assist where possible.
Please contact our reception team, who will arrange for the appropriate clinician to return your call if they are unavailable.
Urgent Referrals
Urgent referrals are prioritised wherever clinically appropriate.
If you are referring a patient with suspected spinal cord compression, progressive neurological deficit, cauda equina syndrome, brain tumour, hydrocephalus or another urgent neurosurgical condition, please contact our rooms directly to discuss the referral with our team.

Common questions from referrers
You are welcome to refer to a specific clinician if you know who you would like your patient to see. Alternatively, you can simply refer to Sydney Spine Institute, and we will triage the referral to the most appropriate member of our multidisciplinary team based on the patient's condition and clinical needs.
Yes. We welcome calls from referring practitioners who would like to discuss a patient's presentation, the urgency of the referral or the most appropriate specialist or service. Please contact our reception team and, if the clinician is unavailable, a return call will be arranged.
The Spinal Injury Callback is a free telephone advice service for GPs, rehabilitation providers and recently injured workers ( at no cost) seeking early guidance following a workplace neck or back injury.
The service provides early direction regarding assessment, investigations, referral pathways and next steps. It is not intended to replace a formal consultation or provide ongoing clinical management.
Please complete the online referral form or contact our reception team by telephone to discuss any urgent referral. We will endeavour to facilitate early assessment.
Patients with suspected cauda equina syndrome or other medical emergencies should be referred immediately to the nearest Emergency Department.
Yes. We are happy to work collaboratively with community physiotherapists, exercise physiologists and other treating practitioners. Referral to Sydney Spine Institute does not require patients to transfer all of their care to our clinic.
Yes. We regularly accept referrals under Workers Compensation, CTP, DVA and other compensable schemes. Our Workplace Spinal Injury Clinic provides specialist assessment, treatment planning and return-to-work support for work-related spinal injuries.
Yes. We aim to provide a comprehensive consultation report to the referring practitioner, usually within a few days of the patient's appointment.
If available, relevant imaging and previous reports are very helpful for specialist consultations.
Yes. We welcome referrals for second opinions regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical suitability and multidisciplinary management.
